The days spent in the Etosha National Park resembled a real miracle. The abundance of wildlife surprised even Werner who has been to many Safaris before. And you would not believe how easy it is to mistake a zebra for a lion from the proper distance… :)

In the 4 days in Etosha almost every waterhole was crowded with all sorts of game. We saw many-many gracious antelopes and zebras grazing, hundreds of friendly elephants splashing around in the water, a bunch of odd-looking giraffes chewing on the leaves and lions taking a nap in the shade. The elegance with which the cheetahs are moving fascinated us, while the trampling of the rhinos was rather funny to watch – although they can be surprisingly fast if they want to. And these are just some of the many animals that we sighted during our drive through the bush.

One of the Big 5: the black rhino

So we saw 4 of the Etosha-Big-5 – which is not identical with “the” big five of Africa (elephant, rhino, lion, leopard, buffalo). As there are no buffalos in this area the replacement is the cheetah. The only one we missed (till today) is the leopard – another reason to return.

We hope you like the photos as much as we enjoyed taking them.
